Spring Semester Classes 2019
Zero Period - OPtional

Transcontinental Railroad
Age:  5 years and older
Teacher:  Amy Shuck
Cost:  $10
Class size:  min:  4

The United States expanded from small colonies along the Atlantic Ocean to become one of the greatest nations in less than 400 years.  Fast, efficient methods of transporting people, goods, and information had to be developed.  In this class, students will join either the Central Pacific Railway moving eastward from California or the Union Pacific Railway moving westward from Nebraska and race to meet in Promontory, Utah.  The winning team will place the "golden spike" in our simulation.  Teams will earn points while researching, completing projects, and giving speeches on topics such as trails, roads, steamboats, canals, stagecoaches, railroads, the Louisiana Purchase, the Industrial Revolution, the Pony Express, the telegraph, and more.  We will end our class with a field trip to the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
